Foo Fighters have premiered their new single, ‘Rope’ online today. The track was made available at 12pm (GMT) on their official website, foofighters.com.
‘Rope’ is the first single to be released from their upcoming seventh studio album, ‘Wasting Light’. The record was recorded by Butch Vig (of Nirvana 'Nevermind' fame) with contributions from Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. Early reports have indicated that the LP is a venture back towards the band’s earlier sound, mixing heavy, bass-filled tones with a newfound penchant for vocal harmonies and euphoric breaks.
‘Rope’ is a fast-paced case-in-point of the album’s direction. Filled with sharp guitar strokes and a powerful chorus line, the track eventually opens up to become an instrumental free-for-all which pits squealing string tones against the lethal pounding of drummer Taylor Hawkins.
The band also revealed another track from ‘Wasting Light’ last week. Featuring Motorhead’s Lemmy in the video, ‘White Limo’ embraces the heavier side of rock with enough distortion to make Matt Bellamy nervous.

Foo Fighters are set to play NME’s Big Gig this Friday (February 25th) with support from Cee Lo Green, Band of Horses and No Age.
