Rob Zombie To Direct Motley Crue's 'The Dirt' Movie

The inimitable, 7-times Grammy-nominated Rob Zombie has been signed up to direct the film version of Motley Crue's infamous 2002 memoir 'The Dirt'.

'The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band' is a collaborative autobiography written by Mötley Crüe, Neil Strauss, and the Mötley managers. First published in 2001, it chronicles the formation of the band, their rise to fame and their decadent lifestyles in the 1980s and 1990s. They write of the highs and lows of their lives with rare candor! Featuring contributions from all four members of Crue, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx, the book also contains over 100 photographs, mostly black & white, with a 16-page color section in the middle of the book.

Commenting on the film, Crue drummer Tommy Lee revealed to Billboard. "That would be a cool place to release some new (Motley Crue) music. It gives new reason for new music. People aren't really buying records these days, so it seems like a good place to maybe put something new from us."

Rob Zombie has already directed a batch of films with gorefests such as the remake of 'Halloween' as well as 'House Of 1000 Corpses', 'The Devil's Rejects'. He has also directed the upcoming 'Lords Of Salem'.

In other Motley Crue news, it was recently announced that Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx are to embark on a massive headline US tour this summer. With support coming from Poison and New York Dolls, these shows look set to be one of the States' biggest rock tours of the year. Speaking about the tour announcment Tommy Lee said, "It's definitely not Crüe Fest. Crüe Fest is, like, five (bands), and this is just the three of us. But it's special because it's another Crue tour and it's summertime, man. That's always special."
