Slipknot Reveal New Bassist For Sonisphere

Slipknot have announced that Donnie Steele will be playing bass for them at their upcoming shows, including their headlining set at Sonisphere on Sunday 10th July in Knebworth. The masked metallers have been without a bassist since the tragic death of band member Paul Gray in May last year. Although doubt has previously been cast over the band's future, they have since confirmed a number of live dates, although according to vocalist Corey Taylor new material remains doubtful.

Steele was actually the original guitarist in Slipknot, joining the band upon their formation in 1995. However, he left the band the following year, long before the release of their eponymous debut album in 1999.

The band have made a statement regarding Steele's recruitment, which can be read on the official Slipknot website: “Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.”

Sonisphere will take place at Knebworth House on 8th - 10th July and is due to be headlined by Slipknot, Biffy Clyro and Metallica. Other acts on the line-up include Slayer, Weezer, Limp Bizkit and reformed rappers House of Pain.
