The Blockheads and Andy C to Headline Basingstoke Live 2011

The Blockheads and drum and bass DJ Andy C have been confirmed as the headliners of this year’s Basingstoke Live festival in July. The free event, which is funded by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and organised by the Basingstoke Live Forum, mixes a host of great local talent with a number of well-known acts across four stages. This year’s festival is set to take place in Basingstoke’s War Memorial Park on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July. A two-week fringe festival will also take place in Basingstoke in the run-up to the event.

Basingstoke Live, now in its fifth year, has previously seen performances from the likes of Chipmunk, Scratch Perverts and The Beat. Last year’s event was their most successful to date, attracting 30,000 people over the weekend. Among the local bands set to perform at Basingstoke Live 2011 are Pussycat and the Dirty Johnsons and Burning Idols, who will be providing the main support for The Blockheads on the Sunday night.

Many people will remember The Blockheads as the band that were once fronted by the legendary Ian Dury up until his untimely death in 2000. The group have continued to tour and perform their classic songs live as a tribute to their late, great singer. As well as headlining Basingstoke Live, The Blockheads are also due to tour throughout 2011.
