Glee’s Ryan Murphy Discusses Kings Of Leon Feud

Tuesday, 05 April 2011 Written by James Conlon

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has discussed comments he made about Kings Of Leon, saying that he now regrets the way in which he spoke. The man behind the hit US show was involved in an extended exchange of insults with the band on Twitter earlier this year, after Kings Of Leon refused to allow their song ‘Use Somebody’ to be used on the show.

Speaking about the feud, Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter:"I didn't speak with as much clarity as I would have liked. Who am I to say 'Fuck you?' That's not what I meant. I completely understand when artists don't want a show or another artist to interpret their songs.

He continued: "I respect that. It's their personal work and I'd feel the same way. We get turned down all the time and I've don't fight it or even go back after a rejection."

Murphy went on to acknowledge comments made by Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl, praising the frontman despite his negative words. Grohl had previously stated that bands “shouldn’t have to do fucking ‘Glee’” to find success in the music industry, to which Murphy replied: "I've never felt that if you don't give 'Glee' your music, there's something diabolical about you. I think Kings Of Leon are cool as shit. The Foo Fighters are brilliant. We'd love to do one if their songs, if they were ever interested. But if it's not their thing, then OK."
