Cher Lloyd Brands Her New Album “Swag Pop”

Friday, 08 April 2011 Written by James Conlon

Cher Lloyd has previewed a number of tracks from her upcoming debut album, describing her sound as a unique brand of “swag pop”. The singer has recently been working with producer RedOne (of Lady Gaga fame) on her as-of-yet untitled debut effort, which is set for release on August 18th.

The ‘X Factor’ finalist previewed a number of new tracks during an interview and photoshoot at Wonderland magazine, provoking the publication to describe her material as ‘ingenious’.

In what may perhaps be regarded as an invested opinion, a writer from the magazine said: "She calls her sound 'swag pop', but that doesn't even come close to describing the furious energy of what she's been working on. Yes, she's still rapping - faster and more aggressively - and she's fed in a lot of urban influences: some tracks have a southern stride, some take cues from UK hip-hop - one even has a huge, squelchy dubstep bassline."

They continued: "But it's all got kind of ingenious, princessy pop edge - think of soaring chorus, petulant spoken asides and single refrains that hark back to the rhythm and melodies of nursery rhymes."

The young singer, who polarised opinion during her angsty stint on the UK singing competition, recently revealed that her new material has been heavily influenced by dubstep and the UK rap scene.
