Toots and the Maytals Celebrate 50 Years with UK Tour & Tickets

Tuesday, 17 May 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Reggae legends Toots and the Maytals are to celebrate 50 years in music with a newly-announced UK tour, which is set to take place in August/September and includes one of the band’s biggest headlining shows at London’s O2 Brixton Academy. See below for dates and tickets.

Toots and the Maytals were founded in Kingston, Jamaica in 1961 by frontman Toots Hibbert. Songs like ‘Pressure Drop’ and ‘54-46 (That's My Number)’ have made them the original reggae legends that they are today. However, the track they are most known for is probably ‘Monkey Man’, which has since been covered by numerous artists, including The Specials, Amy Winehouse and Reel Big Fish.

Speaking about the new dates, Toots said: “Everybody knows the UK is like a second home to me, so I’m looking forward to seeing all my old friends and making some new ones on this very special anniversary tour.”
