Former Members of The Verve Return with New Band, EP & Live Date

Nick McCabe and Simon Jones, formerly of The Verve, have reunited to form a new band The Black Ships. The quartet, whose members also include Mig Schillace and Davide Rossi, have announced details of their first EP entitled ‘Kurofune’, which can be downloaded from The Black Ships’ website for free. The band will also be making their live debut next week at King’s College in London on Thursday 2nd June. See below for tickets.

Speaking about the band’s formation, McCabe said: “You just know when things are right. The four of us met in various circumstances and each meeting was accompanied by this feeling of ‘we've absolutely got to do more together’. And here we are.”

Going on to speak about the EP, he said: “It is undoubtedly the hardest work we have collectively put into any band, but the satisfaction is already huge. ‘Kurofune’ was spawned/recorded in Noah's tiny ‘Best Kept Secret’ studios in Copenhagen, in one of the many feverish explorations of what we do as a unit. This music is of and about the connections and disconnections of human life. It has its own will, and we are glad to obey it.”

Guitarist McCabe and bass player Jones were both members of The Verve from the band’s inception in 1990 through to the end of their reunion in 2009. They performed on all of the group’s releases including their 8x Platinum third album from 1997, ‘Urban Hymns’.
