Arctic Monkeys have revealed that their current live setlist has been inspired by New York rockers The Strokes. The Sheffield four-piece have claimed that they were inspired to modify how they thought about live sets after seeing The Strokes performing live at Madison Square Garden.
Speaking to New York Magazine, guitarist Jamie Cook said: "When I saw The Strokes at Madison Square Garden, they started with the first song on their first album, and it was great. I thought we should do the same."
Cook went on to claim that US audiences are receptive to all material, whether the song is an older classic or a new track, while their British counterparts are largely there just “to hear the big songs”.
The guitarist also claimed that Arctic Monkeys will be aiming to impress audiences early on with more uptempo tracks right at the beginning of their set. He said: "We try to do five that are pretty fast-paced before people get bored."
Cook continued: "I imagine a fan bringing a date to our show who doesn't know us that well. We play loads of new stuff, and when we get to 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', he turns to her and says, 'You'll definitely know this one.' If she says, 'I don't know this one either,' that's when maybe you shouldn't see much of her again."
Arctic Monkeys UK & Ireland Tour Dates are as follows:
Fri June 10th 2011 - Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield
Sat June 11th 2011 - Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield
Sun July 17th 2011 - Recinto De Conciertos, Benicassim Spain
