Cheryl Cole has been sacked from her role as judge on the debut series of the US ‘X Factor’, according to reports. It was stated by a number of sources last night (May 25th) that the singer had been told her services were no longer needed on the talent show after contestants deemed it too difficult to understand her Newcastle accent.
The singer is said to have been replaced by the show’s original host, former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger. According to the Daily Mail this morning, the ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’ star will now join Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and LA Reid on the judges panel.
Both Cowell and Cole have previously asserted that they believed the Newcastle accent would not be a problem with US viewers, despite the lengthy protestations of the show’s US producers. It has also been suggested that Cole’s lack of chemistry with Paula Abdul was a reason for the termination of her £1.2 million contract.
Early reports have indicated that Cole will now be offered the chance to return to her longstanding position on the UK ‘X Factor’, which she abandoned in the hope of breaking the US market. However, the singer is said to be “very upset” about the recent decision, and may even choose to sever ties with the show completely.
