Lady Gaga Calls For Cheaper Legal Music Downloads

Lady Gaga has spoken out about legal music downloads, claiming that music should be cheaper than it already is to buy online.

Coming as Amazon recently sold her album ‘Born This Way’ for just 99c, or 60p, the controversial star admitted she thought that even 60p was too expensive for a non-physical version of her album.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the singer talked about the pricing of legal music downloads and was asked whether she thought 99c was to cheap a price for her latest LP – and Gaga replied “No, I absolutely do not.”

Although albums like ‘Born This Way’ would usually see price 3 or 4 times that (Amazon paid for the difference lost on the sales as part of a promo campaign), Gaga clearly thinks that virtual copies of albums are worth much less than hard, physical copies, and she believes that cheaper digital downloads means all kinds of people will still be able to afford and listen to music.

“For MP3s and digital music, it’s invisible. It’s in space. If anything, I applaud a company like Amazon, for equating the value of digital versus the physical copy, and giving the opportunity to everyone to buy music.”

Gaga’s album ‘Born This Way was released over a week ago (the 23rd), but has already sold over 1.3million copies in the UK and US alone.
