The Darkness Perform Their First Show In Five Years

In preparation for their sub-headline slot at this weekend's Download festival, The Darkness played their first show in five years last night. The show was the band's first performance since re-forming earlier this year.

The warm-up gig, which took place in Norwich, saw the band play a collection of songs from their two studio albums along with one B-Side and a few newly written tracks.

Singer Justin Hawkins told NME he felt the gig had gone, "as well as could be expected. You expect some hiccups and nerves, but we tried some things that we'd never done before and those are the things that worked."

They debuted a few tracks from the brand new album they’ve been working on including ‘Cannonball’ and ‘Concrete’, with guitarist Dan Hawkins saying."We were playing stuff at a million miles an hour today, it was pretty cool. More like a punk rock gig that we used to do ten years ago."

The band will perform second on the bill this Friday (June 10th) supporting headliner Def Leppard at the Donington Park rock festival and while The Darkness' comeback has been derided in some quarters it has also been greatly anticipated by many and they’re sure to see a huge audience.

The Darkness setlist for their Download warm-up show:

1. Bareback
2. Black Shuck
3. Growing On Me
4. Get Your Hands Off My Woman
