Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner has discussed recent comparisons made between the band and Oasis by US audiences. Speaking to Reuters, Turner claimed that the comparisons were “bound to” happen, but went on to state that Arctic Monkeys were always big fans of the Gallagher brothers when growing up.
When asked if he minds being compared to Oasis by North American fans, Turner said: "Not really, I mean, it's like we're both a British rock and roll band, we're kind of bound to"
He continued: "We are both from the North, similar haircut. But musically, it is a little bit different. I mean, we are huge fans of them, growing up and all that, they were a really important band for us. I don't mind being compared to Oasis at all."
The singer also discussed Arctic Monkeys fourth studio album, ‘Suck It And See’, which wasrecently censored by certain US retailers. Talking about the album, Turner claimed that he feels it is more “mellow” than their previous release ‘Humbug’, but he stated that he believes that gives the LP a “more human feel”.
Turner also discussed the recording method, saying: "The recording techniques were a little bit more traditional. We did a lot of live takes, with the four of us playing and we wanted to get a human feel to it."
Talking about the fast-paced nature of the album, Turner said: "I think it's pretty frantic at times. It has its moments that are a bit more like the chimey guitar thing, like reverberated out that occurs in quite a lot of the songs and I suppose that does give it quite a mellow aspect. I guess probably compared with the first two, it is not as fast and crazy. But it has moments like that."
Arctic Monkeys are set to perform two large shows on June 10th and 11th at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium.
