Charlie Simpson Announces The Release Of Debut Solo Album

Charlie Simpson will release his debut solo album ‘Young Pilgrim’, on August 15th.
After spending 6 months of last year holed up writing in his London studio, Charlie joined forces with acclaimed producer Danton Supple (Coldplay, Doves) to begin recording his debut solo album. The result is an accomplished 12 track record that oozes with vintage warmth and whose luscious melodies and occasional imperfections lend it a vibrant character and earnest charm. Lead single ‘Down Down Down’ was rapturously received by Charlie’s fans including Fearne Cotton who made it Record Of The Week on Radio 1.
Hints of The National make themselves known in Charlie’s baritone vocal in second single ‘Parachutes’ [released on 8th August preceding 'Young Pilgrim', while the vibrant ‘Hold On’ also sees Charlie experimenting with his voice: “There are literally five vocals. I wanted to build chords out of them... harmony, for me, is a most cherished thing.” The undeniable musicality of the album is enhanced by Charlie once again pairing up with renowned string arranger Audrey Riley (Muse, Feeder) on four tracks including the aforementioned ‘Hold On’ and the intimate ‘I Need A Friend Tonight’.
Another album highlight is ‘Cemetery’ which, driven by a double bass and chain gang stomp, takes a sentimental look back at his youth when everything was “an open road, with no real sense of responsibility”. Never resting on his laurels, Charlie also collaborated with Ivor Novello winning songwriter Iain Archer on the melancholic ‘If I Lose It’, the pen-ultimate song on the album. Fittingly, final track ‘Riverbanks’ produces a guitar, piano and string driven crescendo to close the album in epic post-rock fashion.

The second single to be taken from 'Young Pilgrim' is 'Parachutes' and will be released on 8th August. The new video for the single is below.
Charlie will be supporting the release with headline tour dates and festival appearances across the UK this summer.
