Nicole Scherzinger’s Manager Claims Cheryl Cole ‘X Factor’ Drama Was Staged

Tuesday, 14 June 2011 Written by James Conlon

The former manager of ex-Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger has claimed that the controversial decision to replace Cheryl Cole on the US version of the ‘X Factor’ was entirely staged by Cowell and the show’s producers.

Jeff Haddad, who managed Scherzinger during the initial discussions regarding the singing competition, has claimed that Cole was (knowingly) used in order to generate publicity for the first stateside series of the show. He also went on to state that Scherzinger was never intended as a host for the show, the position which she briefly occupied before being called in as Cole’s replacement.

Both The Mirror and The Sun have today (June 14th) quoted Haddad as saying: "In my opinion, Simon Cowell always wanted Nicole as a judge. There was never a question that she wouldn’t get it. Nicole was always going to be on the judging panel. Cheryl was just being used as a cog in the wheel to cause hype and publicise the show."

He continued: "I had long discussions with Simon about her judging the US show and she was always a front-runner. Cheryl's name never came into it and Nicole was never supposed to be a host. Her hosting the show wasn’t even mentioned."

Haddad also went on to state that Cole’s departure was nothing to do with claims that her accent was unintelligible for the American contestants. He said: "Cheryl's accent never came into it – it was a cover-up excuse. Americans are used to all sorts of accents – it would have worked in her favour, if anything. Plus, she's a great girl and an accent wouldn't have been a factor in getting rid of her."

Finally, the former manager continued to claim that Cole’s dismissal was merely part of the plan to launch her US music career. He said: "Simon says Cheryl will definitely feature in the TV show because of the contestants she judged – but it's how they make the transition from Cheryl to Nicole without it looking too strange. They're thinking of billing her as a guest judge."
