Metronomy’s Joseph Mount has discussed his role as producer on Nicola Robert’s upcoming solo album, claiming that the tracks he worked on with the Girls Aloud singer are “wild cards”.
Robert’s recently unveiled the video to her lead solo single, ‘Beat Of My Drum’, which was produced by Diplo. Speaking about his contribution to Robert’s upcoming album ‘Cinderella’s Eyes’, Mount was keen to heap praise on the singer.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "I did two [tracks] with her and there's one that will be on the album. She's probably the best one of Girls Aloud to work with, she knows exactly where she fits into everything. She's aware of what people think of her and she knows exactly what she wants."
He continued, discussing the origins of their collaboration: "I mentioned Girls Aloud in loads of interviews about a year and a half ago, and that I would love to work with them. I'm not sure how much that had an impact but it happened and it was amazing.
"I sent a load of really short beats to her. There were two folders, one was the stuff I thought the record label might be imagining would be good and the other was stuff that I liked and that was a kind of wild card thing. We met up in the studio and the two things that she liked were both from the wild card folder, which was brilliant."
Mount added, finally: "From then on all the lyrics were coming from her and I'd just suggest a few or different words. The melodies were both of us as well. She doesn't play any instruments so I guess that's why she needs to work with people like me."
‘Cinderella's Eyes’ is scheduled for release this Autumn.
