YouTube officials suspended one of their most popular channels today – as Lady Gaga’s account was shut down after copyright claims from a Japanese media company.
The eccentric singer had recently appeared on a Japanese television show called SMAP x SMAP following her tour of Asia. Gaga was interviewed and then performed a short medley of songs from her forthcoming album ‘Born This Way’ album.
Then days after the special performance, Gaga uploaded the ten minute video of the medley on to her YouTube channel – which was the first channel on the site to reach over one billion views – only to have her own performance removed and her channel suspended.
Japanese bosses of Media International were reportedly angry that their exclusive performance was broadcast onto YouTube for anyone to see, and contacted YouTube bosses to remove the video. The star’s Vevo channel is now back online – but the Japanese performance video is long gone.
It is unknown whether some sort of deal will be thrashed out to get the video back – in my opinion it’s shameful that a singer can’t post videos of her own performances online to share with her fans, but copyrighting is a common thing in today’s world. I think it’s time we stood up to the man!
Meanwhile, Gaga fans world wide are awaiting confirmation of a world tour following the release of 'Born This Way'. Stereoboard recently analysed a string of fake dates which circulated the web, proving them to be incorrect - if you want the real dates as soon as they're confirmed, keep updated on Stereoboard.NOTE FROM THE EDITOR We don't run any advertising!
