Mean Poppa Lean Reveal Details Of New EP 'Live On Twelve Legs' & London Live Show

Brighton sextet Mean Poppa Lean have released brand new EP 'Live On Twelve Legs', inspired by the likes of Prince, Talking Heads and Chromeo, the band combine catchy hooks with an infectious dance-ability to create a sound that is refreshingly unique.

Famed for their incendiary live performances, relentless energy, awe-inspiring musicianship, endorphin-drenched atmosphere and a touch of vintage anti-fashion, Mean Poppa Lean's unique fusion has led them to the stages of V and Isle of Wight festivals, multiple UK and European tours and an upcoming show at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, to name but a few. After acclaimed releases of studio singles ‘Sheryl Crow’ and ‘Personality’, the group have immortalised their much talked about live show in ‘Live on Twelve Legs’.

Kicking off in no-holds-barred style, ‘Burn It Out’ is the band’s homage to their Motown idols, twisted into shape by an incessant double-time beat and soaring chorus that leaves you in no doubt these guys mean business. The stomping riffage of ‘Regretamine’ showcases their uncompromisingly rock roots, and fan favourite ‘9-0-2-1-Ho!’ is guaranteed to stay rooted in your psyche for weeks. ‘Sheryl Crow’ and ‘Lydia Said’ are two sides of the same disco coin, the former bordering on manic while the latter embraces a world of pop hooks. Singer Christian Barnes and guitarist C-Dogg wear their love of contemporary RnB on their sleeves with penultimate club banger ‘Break Ya Hip’ and proceedings are rounded off with the show-stopping ‘Fax Machine’, including a dedication to the deceased heroes of soul and a choreographed finale.

Mean Poppa Lean are a blueprint for the band of today; totally unsigned, self-managed and self-sufficient, they thrive on the freedom to do as they wish without compromising their music or image. In a music industry that is increasingly focused on live performance, the band wanted to give their existing fans a tangible memento of why they fell in love with them in the first place, and simultaneously give a taste to the uninitiated. Although they had their heyday in the 1970s, live recordings have made a comeback, demonstrated by the recent success of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’. This prompted Mean Poppa Lean to hit the record button, culminating in ‘Live on Twelve Legs’.

You can catch Mean Poppa Lean live when they play London's Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Friday 29th July.
