By The Rivers Announced As The Specials Support Act

Leicester-based ska band By The Rivers will be living out what is a dream for any up and coming young band – when they join legendary 2 tone outfit The Specials on their UK tour this October.
By The Rivers are a six-piece reggae and ska group who formed just last year, but have already managed to secure a position as support act for the ‘Ghost Town’ group, who reformed a couple of years ago.
The band, who have an average age of about 20, had already supported a project of Special’s vocalist Neville Staple, which is when the band passed on a sample CD of their work to the singer. Staple evidently liked the demos and has now arranged for the band to warm-up the crowds as they take their unique punk-infused ska sound around the UK.
“A lot of the places on the tour, I have never been to before, let alone played there,” admitted By The Rivers’ Nile Barrow. “I didn't know how to react. I couldn't believe it was actually happening. I had a big celebration that night and a bad head the next morning!”
Fellow band-member Jordan Birtles, 21, is equally excited at the prospect of supporting his heroes.
“Before we even thought about writing reggae music we were influenced by The Specials, not only musically, but also because of what they stand for and the message they have. They were at the forefront of the 2-Tone movement and stood against racism and politics.”
