Leonard Cohen Set To Release New Album in 2012

Canadian icon Leonard Cohen has announced that he will be releasing a 12th studio album next year, following his recent world tour.

The 76 year-old singer-songwriter has been testing out new material from the currently untitled album while on tour in recent times, and they must have received the approval of the fans as it seems as though Cohen will use them in his up and coming LP. The record is set to come out at around spring time next year, and could potentially be followed by another tour from the old-timer.

Cohen hasn’t put out a studio album since 2004’s ‘Dear Heather’, and although he has released three separate live CDs since then, his scores of fans (including his cult following in Scandinavia!) will be foaming at the mouth at the thought of a new album.

The star has been reeling in the awards for his recent live performances, showing that the folk singer hasn’t lost his touch despite his age. So far this year, he’s picked up a Helpmann award, a Prince of Asturias Award, and a prestigious Glenn Gould Award for his lifetime contribution to arts.

Leonard isn’t on tour at the moment, but like previously mentioned, a tour could be scheduled to coincide with this new album release. Stay with Stereoboard for more Leonard Cohen news in the near future.
