X Factor Finalists One Direction Set To Become Latest SyCo Cash Cow

Simon Cowell will be rolling even more dosh this autumn, as his Syco director revealed that One Direction’s debut single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ has exceeded Sony pre-order records.

The single was only premiered on radio last week, and isn’t due out until September 11th, but the track has exceeded expectations and Syco’s managing director Sonny Takhar says that its first week of pre-orders have been greater than any in Sony’s history. He also said that he hopes that the track makes it to #1 in its first week, just like Cher Lloyd’s ‘Swagger Jagger’ did.

The X-Factor runners-up have been forced into the studio for what Takhar described as ‘intensive’ recording sessions, following the end of the X-Factor tour earlier this year. It’s seen by the Syco machine as one of the best pop records they’ve ever constructed, and will most likely be milked beyond recognition this Christmas time as the money-hungry managers continue their constant battle for the Christmas #1. The full (currently untitled) album is due out sometime in autumn.

Takhar went through the process of manufacturing the LP: “We started working with the band immediately after the show had finished – they went to LA and recorded with RedOne.

“Then, while the boys were out on the X Factor tour between February and April, we started finding and sourcing songs and creating situations where songs were written for the boys in preparation for them to record once they had finished.”

If you want to find out who next year’s Golden Goose will be, watch the new series of X-Factor, starting this Saturday.
