Florence Welch: “‘Shake It Out’ Is A Hangover Cure”

Tuesday, 20 September 2011 Written by James Conlon

Vocalist extraordinaire Florence Welsh has offered the first description about her latest musical offering ‘Shake It Out’, comparing the new track to a “hangover cure”. The Florence and the Machine frontwoman debuted the track last week, revealing that it will be the first song to be officially taken from their sophomore release ‘Ceremonials’.

Speaking to XFM about the new single, Welsh described the cathartic elements behind the track. She said: "I wanted to just shake something out, shake out these regrets, shake out these things that haunt you. It was one of those songs that came in about half an hour and when you've got a hangover, it is almost like a hangover cure. You're like, thank you!"

She continued: "I don't want everyone to think that I always write songs with a hangover! Cause I don't, I really don't. But with this one I have to say there was a bit of one lurking in my mind as I wrote it. It was like I was trying to write a hangover cure."

‘Ceremonials’ is set for digital and physical release on October 31st in the UK. You can listen to ‘Shake It Out’ and ‘What The Water Gave Me’ (the first taste fans received from the new LP) below:
