Joey Barton Says Getting The Smiths Back Together Would Be Greatest Achievement

QPR midfielder Joey Barton has claimed his biggest possible achievement wouldn’t be made on the pitch – it would be managing to help legendary rockers The Smiths to reform.

The footballer hasn’t ever hid his love for The Smiths and now says he’d love to get them back together like their pals and fellow rockers The Stone Roses. And, after they re-released all of their previous studio albums, as well as a compilation and live album, a reunion is looking more likely than ever.

“If I could get The Smiths back together that would top anything I could achieve on the football pitch,” Barton told The Sun. “They told me they had turned down £40million for a reunion — but I reckon Marr is up for it.”

Barton is pals with both Morrissey and Johnny Marr, and, although the two have had issues in the past, the footballer thinks the pair are veering towards friendship and a possible get-together.

While nothing official of a reunion has been said at all, you never know what the music world will bring you next - so stay up-to-date on The Smiths news here at Stereoboard.
