Posthumous Amy Winehouse Album Set For Release in December

Island Records, the label that the late Amy Winehouse was signed to, has announced that a posthumous album will be released on December 5th.

The new record will be titled ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ and will showcase 12 previously unheard tracks including rarities and unreleased tunes as well as alternate versions and remixes Amy had done of her own hits. The album was arranged by singer-songwriter and friend Mark Ronson as well as Salaam Remi, and will follow her two original studio albums ‘Frank and ‘Back in Black’, which both sit inside the top 100 four months after her death.

“I spent so much time chasing after Amy telling her off that I never realised what a true genius she was,” Amy’s dad Mitch told MusicWeek. “It wasn’t until I sat down with the rest of the family and listened to this album that I fully appreciated the breadth of Amy’s talent, from jazz standards to hip hop songs, it really took my breath away.”

With the release date sitting close to Christmas, HMV spokesperson Gennaro Castaldo believes the album will sell extremely well – and could be a contender for the prestigious Christmas #1.

“This is really exciting news - a lot of people felt there simply had to be some unreleased new material from Amy and that it was only a matter of time before it came out,” Castaldo revealed. “Naturally, we're expecting huge interest in this album - with fans already pre-ordering it, and with its timing so close to Christmas it's also likely to be a strong contender for the Christmas No.1.”
