Rodrigo Y Gabriela Release Trailer for New Album ‘Area 52’ – Watch Now

Mexican acoustic rock duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela have released a new three-minute trailer for their forthcoming album ‘Area 52’, which is due out on 23rd January 2012. The trailer is taken from the ‘Making of Area 52’ DVD, which will be included with the album upon its release – watch below.
The new album is also set to feature the talents of C.U.B.A. – a 13-piece orchestra from Havana – making it Rodrigo Y Gabriela’s first recorded collaboration with another group of artists. Earlier this week, the duo announced that they will be following the release of ‘Area 52’ with a number of UK tour dates in February. They will be joined onstage by C.U.B.A for the shows, which will be their first tour with a full band – see below for all dates and tickets.
On ‘Area 52’, Rodrigo Y Gabriela revisit nine of their earlier tracks and reinterpret them in spectacular fashion. Other guests on the album include sitar player Anoushka Shankar, ex-White Zombie drummer and current drummer for The Cult John Tempesta, jazz bassist Carles Benavent and Palestinian group Le Trio Joubran.
Speaking about the new album, Rodrigo Sanchez said: “We felt like Mulder and Scully approaching this - it was just a crazy idea, to see if a big Cuban band could play our music, a step in the dark. We knew it was out there - everyone has heard of Area 51, but we wanted to take it a little further.”
Earlier this year, Rodrigo Y Gabriela worked with Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack to the film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’. They have previously performed with a number of other artists including Zack De La Rocha from Rage Against The Machine and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo. On their eponymous second album, Rodrigo Y Gabriela recorded their own version of Metallica’s ‘Orion’, which was originally released on the heavy metal legends’ 1986 album ‘Master of Puppets’.
