Laura Veirs Announces UK Tour Dates & Tickets

Following the release of her eighth album ‘Tumble Bee’ earlier this month, US folk singer Laura Veirs has announced a series of UK tour dates for January and February next year – see below for details and tickets.

The album is a collection of folk songs for children, featuring some traditional 20th century music as well as tracks by the likes of Jimmie Rodgers, Woody Guthrie, Peggy Seeger and Harry Belafonte. It features a number of collaborations with guest artists such as The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy and Jim James of My Morning Jacket.

Veirs recorded ‘Tumble Bee’ with her partner, the Grammy-nominated producer Tucker Martine, with whom she has worked on all of her albums since 2005’s ‘The Triumphs and Travails of Orphan Mae’. The idea for the new album was inspired by the birth of their son Tennessee in April last year.

Speaking about ‘Tumble Bee’, Martine said: “Many of these songs have been forgotten throughout the years. We wanted to bring these songs to a new generation with an instrumentation that both honours their traditions and creates something unique.”

The album has already earned a number of well-known admirers including singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens, who said: “I love this record. Laura's folk songs for children prove that the best children's music never gets old.”

Another fan, James Mercer of The Shins, added: “A brilliant kids record that anyone who loves good music will appreciate.”

Tuesday 31st January 2012 – Rescue Rooms, Nottingham
Wednesday 1st February 2012 – Quay Theatre, Manchester
Thursday 2nd February 2012 – Sage Hall, Gateshead
Friday 3rd February 2012 – Arches, Glasgow
Saturday 4th February 2012– The Library, Birmingham
