Trivium Bassist Confused At 'Lulu' Release

Like ‘St. Anger’, ‘Lulu’ is an album Metallica fans will probably never take to and will probably be hated on for years and years to come. It received pretty terrible reviews worldwide and was subject to many a derogatory blog post, but one person who’s definitely not a fan is Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto – with him describing those who understood the album as “on drugs.”

ImageThe album, which came out on October 31st, was a collaborative effort with rock guitarist Lou Reed. It was hyped to be a special, one-of-a-kind record with lyrics so deep and well-written, they apparently caused ‘Tallica frontman James Hetfield to shed a few tears. But, upon release, die-hard Metallica fans were the only people left shedding tears, and the album was universally hated.

But Trivium’s bassist, who did still admit that the thrash icons were still has favourite band, took release of the LP worst than most, and claimed that he was stumped as to why the band even bothered to record it.

“It’s really weird,” said Gregoletto, talking about ‘Lulu’. “Do I understand it? If anyone thinks they understand it, they’re on drugs. It’s a weird album, man! We listened to most of it. We were just like, 'What the fuck is this?'

“It’s so weird. I saw some videos of it live and if those dudes are happy doing that, then more power to them, because they’re still my favourite band, but it’s really weird and I think everyone thinks that, too.”

Metallica may have upset fans with ‘Lulu’, but they’ve at least pleased a few thousand by announcing that they’ll be playing through their seminal 1991 ‘Black’ album in its entirety when they rock out Download Festival next summer.

But, if you felt that 'Lulu' was the last straw for Metallica and you feel you need to move on, why not check out Trivium on their UK tour next month? Dates and details are below.
