Afro Celt Sound System’s Iarla Ó Lionáird to Release New Album ‘Foxlight’

Irish singer and producer Iarla Ó Lionáird, known best as the lead vocalist with world music collective Afro Celt Sound System, is set to release his new solo album ‘Foxlight’ on 12th December. Watch a live recording of the album track ‘Hand in Hand’ below.

‘Foxlight’ is Iarla’s third solo album to date and his first in six years following 2005’s ‘Invisible Fields’, which was voted Best Folk Record by The Irish Times. The new album is produced by Leo Abrahams, who has previously worked with the likes of Brian Eno and Carl Barat. It also features a collaboration with Jon Hopkins, who was recently co-nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize alongside King Creosote for their album ‘Diamond Mine’.

Afro Celt Sound System were founded by Grammy Award-nominated producer Simon Emmerson and released their debut album ‘Sound Magic’ in 1996. In the following year, Iarla Ó Lionáird released his first solo album ‘The Seven Steps to Mercy’. Afro Celt Sound System have released five albums to date, including 2001’s ‘Further in Time’, which featured collaborations with Peter Gabriel and Robert Plant. The band have since become a regular highlight at Gabriel’s WOMAD Festival. In 2000, they were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best World Music. Last year, Afro Celt Sound System released a ‘Best of’ compilation entitled ‘Capture: 1995-2010’.
