Ahead of the release of their new album ‘Shoplifting 4 Jesus’, which is due out next year, Alabama 3 have released album track ‘Facebook.con’ as a free download through their SoundCloud page. The album is due for release on 27th February 2012. Alabama 3 are currently partway through a UK tour, which concludes at London’s HMV Forum this Friday (2nd December) – see below for remaining dates and tickets.
Speaking about ‘Shoplifting 4 Jesus’, which is inspired by the recent spate of riots, the band’s frontman Larry Love said: “The album’s got another kind of theme running through it - a biblical feel. But it's the Bible-as-Communist manifesto, which is why we thought it would be a good idea to get a few voices reading passages from the good book throughout.”
These voices include best-selling crime writer Martina Cole, who recites the story of Mary Magdalene at the Well, Emmy Award-winning actor Ray Winstone reciting from Exodus, and Bez reading from the Sermon on the Mount.
Alabama 3 were formed in 1995 in Brixton, London and released their debut album ‘Exile on Coldharbour Lane’ in 1997. The album included their track ‘Woke Up This Morning’, which went on to become the theme song for the hit US drama ‘The Sopranos’.
