Vybz Kartel Takes Guard Hostage And Escapes From Jail

Vybz Kartel, the dancehall artist and reality TV personality, has reportedly escaped jail – by holding a guard at gun point and starting a mass prison riot.

The musician was incarcerated in the Jamaican prison after being found guilty of murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm, after conspiring with three friends to try and kill promoter Barrington Burton earlier this year in October. After spending around a month inside, he must have found prison life too much – and decided that he had to get out.

Kartel proceeded to start a prison riot with a few of his inmate friends, sparking a prison-wide episode of chaos that allowed the star to get hold of a weapon and take a guard hostage – like a scene out of some sort of gangsta film. And, again just like the movies, they went on to steal a prison van – of course swapping clothes with one of the prison officers – before escaping away. According to reports, anyway.

While the circumstances of the break have been reported, they haven’t been 100% confirmed yet - although, according to the NME, the Force Commissioner of Jamaica's Criminal Investigations Branch DID confirm that Vybz was on the run from the law. We’ll give you further details on this story as more news surfaces.
