Gwar's Cory Smoot's Cause Of Death Revealed

Crazy costume-wearing rockers Gwar have revealed the cause of guitarist Cory Smoot’s death, after he suddenly passed away on their tour bus as they waited to cross the Canadian border.

Smoot, a.k.a Flattus Maximus, was found dead on the bus just over a month ago, but the band and their scores of fans had been left out-of-the-know in terms of how he died. But now, the band have revealed that his former bandmate had, in fact, died from a heart attack, which was caused by a pre-existing coronary heart disease.

“It is with a sense of profound loss and tragedy that the members of Gwar must announce the passing of their longtime guitarist and beloved friend Cory Smoot, also known to thousands of metal fans worldwide as Flattus Maximus,” frontman Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) said. “Cory was found deceased this morning as the band prepared for a border crossing.”

The character of Flattus Maximus has been played by five people in total, with Smoot being the fifth and final guitarist to ever play him – as he has now been retired. Smoot took over Maximus’ role in 2002, after Zach Blair’s three year reign came to an end.

Gwar make their way to the UK early on in 2012. If you’re a fan of the theatrical rockers, check the dates and details below.
