Girl Band Little Mix Crowned X Factor Winners

Earlier this evening girl band Little Mix were crowned this year's X Factor winners, the first group to win the ITV talent show.

The final, which took place at London's Wembley Arena, saw Little Mix fight off competition from Marcus Collins in front of a 10,000-strong crowd. Millions more were at home watching the show live on television.

Mentored by N-Dub Tulisa Contostavlos, Little Mix, made up of Jade Thirlwall, 18, Perrie Edwards, 18, Jesy Nelson, 20, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 19, appeared to be totally stunned when host Dermot O'Leary announced the winners. Leigh-Anne's first words on hearing the result were simply: “oh my god wow”.

The foursome, who have walked away with a recording contract, will now release their winner's single, a cover of Damien Rice's 'Cannonball'. The single is expected to top the charts as Christmas Number One.

Louis Walsh revealed his feeling about the result, commenting: "I'm going to predict this time next year this is going to be the biggest girl band in the UK by a mile."

You can see the girls' performance of 'Cannonball' from tonight's X Factor final show, below.
