Amy Winehouse Tops Album Chart With Posthumous Album

Late soul singing sensation Amy Winehouse has managed to top the album chart over four months after her tragic death in July.

The singer’s father, friends and estate had worked together to compile all the unreleased songs, unheard duets and never before seen videos into one brilliant posthumous album – and it’s now top of the album charts, with 194,000 copies sold since it hit shelves last Monday. Some of the profits from the CD sales will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which Amy’s father Mitch set up in her honour.

The singer’s mother was extremely pleased at the achievement, and said: “It's such amazing news that Amy's album has gone to number one, and just goes to show what she still means to people.”

She continued: “It's especially good for the foundation and knowing that every sale will go to help a deserving cause makes the news all the more special. I'm so proud of my daughter and so happy that she is still touching people. She's forever in my heart.”

HMV were equally as impressed by the sales of the album, with spokesperson Gennaro Castaldo saying: “We fully expected Lioness: Hidden Treasures to go straight in at number one, but to do so achieving such a level of sales is truly remarkable. We can see this album vying to be at the top of the Official Charts all the way through Christmas.”
