The Smashing Pumpkins Will Never Be A 'Nostalgia Act', Says Frontman

American alternative rockers The Smashing Pumpkins have dashed fans’ hopes of a new tour by stating that they don’t want to become known as a ‘nostalgia act’ who continuously tour the same songs over and over again.

Billy Corgan, the group’s frontman, was in an interview with metal magazine Kerrang! when he made the comments, which come just before the release of the Pumpkins’ ninth studio album ‘Oceania’, which hits shelves early on next year.

“The Pumpkins won’t be a nostalgia act, we refuse to be,” Corgan stressed. “That would be the true death of the Smashing Pumpkins. I’ve said to people in the business – we won’t go out and make money by playing Siamese Dream in full. We’re not operating with that safety net. That isn’t an option. That’s off the table.”

After touring the UK for a while, the band are now playing the waiting game as there new album prepares to drop. We don’t know if they’ll be touring any time soon, but fans will most likely be able to catch the band on the 2012 festival circuit. Watch Stereoboard for any future Smashing Pumpkins news.
