Rare David Bowie Performance To Air On BBC2 Tonight

David Bowie fans will be treated by the BBC tonight, as the channel showcases some of its extremely rare archive footage of the superstar performing on its iconic music show Top of the Pops.

The clip sees Bowie performing ‘The Jean Genie’, a performance so rare that it is thought that every single copy of it had been destroyed – until John Henshall, a retired BBC cameraman, publicised the fact that he had an intact tape of the show. Now, Bowie fans will be able to see their favourite singing the track for the first time for more than 30 years on BBC Two tonight, as part of the Top of the Pops Christmas Special at 7:30pm.

Top of the Pops 2 executive producer Mark Cooper is excited for tonight’s programme and said: “Bowie singing 'The Jean Genie' is electric and the kind of piece of archive that not only brings back how brilliant Top Of The Pops could be, but also how a piece of archive can speak to us down the years.”

It may be Bowie fans’ only chance to see the star on stage, as he hasn’t performed live since his 2006 appearance alongside Alicia Keys – so make sure you don’t miss it!
