The Streets are an English hip-hop/garage/electronic outfit based in Birmingham. Originally formed in 1994, the group was fronted by singer and instrumentalist Mike Skinner, who appeared alongside Johnny Drum Machine, Kevin Mark Trail, Leo the Lion, and a number of collaborators.
First emerging in the early '00s with Has it Come to This? (which reached #18), The Streets would go on to become one of the UK underground's flagship acts, bridging the gap between the gritty hip-hop and garage scenes and the mainstream. Putting out their now-platinum debut, 'Original Pirate Material', in 2002, The Streets would reach #1 with their next two albums ('A Grand Don't Come for Free' and 'The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living'), and remaining a popular act for their next two records, until Skinner called time on The Streets in 2011. However, in 2018, Mike Skinner admitted he missed touring with The Streets, and they hit the road for a UK tour in 2018. Back again in 2020, The Streets will head to Earlham Park, Norwich, in May as part of the Friday Night Live series, as well as a headline show at Manchester's Castlefield Bowl in July.
