Wendy Dio And Glenn Hughes Talk Of Black Sabbath Reunion

In 2011, fans of rock and metal revelled in delight as the original Black Sabbath line-up held a press conference to announce their reunion. While the fans were unanimously excited by the idea, people have wondered what many linked to the band in the past would feel.

In a recent chat with Artisan News, Ronnie James Dio’s widow Wendy discussed how she thinks her late husband would feel about the announcement. She said, “I think Ronnie would have given it his blessing. It’s the right thing to do. They were the innovators of rock ‘n’ roll and they need to finish as… they’re legends — complete legends.” She also noted, “I think it will be fantastic and I think Ronnie would have totally given his blessing.”

Over the years, Dio fronted the band on various stints (1979-1982, 1991-1991) as well as performing with them in the last decade prior to his passing.

Another former member has had his say on the reunion. Glen Hughes, frontman for the band’s 1985 release ‘Seventh Star’, shares the positive sentiments of Wendy Dio.

He said, “I think it’s wonderful that Ozzy now is sober and willing to bring it all together. “I think that just shows the kind of man that he has now become. And he has always been a lovely, good friend to me. But it just shows how far they have come as brothers to come together at this time. I think it’s perfect timing.”

With their new album, produced by the infamous Rick Rubin, expected this Autumn, fans have plenty to look forward to from Sabbath. Alongside their string of European dates announced, there are rumours floating around that a full UK stint is to be expected.

Regardless, UK fans will have the opportunity to catch the legendary Black Sabbath this summer as they close Download Festival at Donington, concluding the event’s tenth year with quite a spectacle.
