Rapper, singer and songwriter Example has had an incredible year – which has seen him put out a #1 album, two consecutive #1 singles, perform on a sold out headline UK tour (as well as his biggest ever European tour) and his second album ‘Won’t Go Quietly’ earn a Gold certificate. But, 2012 may have already brought him one of the biggest milestones of his career – after he signed a deal with label giants Mercury/Universal in the United States.
Example has been rising to the top of the British music scene since his debut album ‘What We Made’ dropped back in 2007. In 2011, one his most recent singles ‘Changed the Way You Kiss Me’ became the second biggest UK single from a male artist last year and sold over half a million copies – prompting US label bosses to keep their eyes peeled. US music bigwigs Billboard even described him as “a new contender for the throne of hottest British rapper in the world.” So it was no surprise when Example, real name Elliot Gleave, was offered the chance to crack the states.
“I'm pleased to have signed to a major label like Mercury/Universal in the US,” Example sad. “It was important to me to sign with someone who understands not only my ambitions but also the way I work. I want to do it on my own terms; I enjoy a good challenge and can’t wait to get started.”
Label boss David Massey is equally thrilled to be working with the star, and said: “Everyone here is very excited to be working with Example, a world class songwriter and performer who is now a leading force in the live arena. A true modern day rock star who is at the forefront of the new wave of exciting electronic music exploding here in the U.S.”
