American actress and musician Juliette Lewis has publicly spoken out about ‘Video Games’ singer Lana Del Rey’s appearance on Saturday Night Live, comparing the performance to that of a “12 year-old in their bedroom”.
Del Rey was asked to perform on the show two nights ago on January 14th, even though it is usually established artists and bands with long careers who are asked to come on. After she sang her hits ‘Video Games’ and ‘Blue Jeans’, Lewis took to Twitter to express her feelings about the show.
“Wow watching this 'singer' on SNL is like watching a 12 year-old in their bedroom when theyre pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes,” Lewis bluntly wrote. While the message may seem harsh, a lot of Del Rey’s own fans have criticised the singer for her recitals on the show, with many saying that they thought the star was nervous. You can watch the clip below.
Del Rey had already spoken to press to explain that her invitation to sing on the famous television show wasn’t just a fluke and that she earned the right to go on by being a ‘good musician’.
She said: “I got it because I'm a good musician. I may not have a record out now, but I have been singing for a very long time, and I think that ['SNL' creator] Lorne Michaels knows that, and everyone over there knows that.”
