Coldplay Claim Title For Biggest-Selling Rock Single & Best Rock Album Of 2011

Coldplay have claimed the title for releasing the UK's biggest-selling rock album and single of 2011.

According to figures recorded by the Official Charts Company, Coldplay's recent Number One hit single 'Paradise' was crowned the best-selling rock song of 2011 with over 410,000 copies sold. The Goo Goo Dolls' 'Iris' followed with 264,000 copies sold, following X-Factor drop-out Frankie Cocozza's rendition of the song on the TV show earlier this year. Birdy's cover of 'Skinny Love' came in at Number Three with 259,000 sales with Coldplay also claiming the Number Four spot after 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' racked-up 247,000 sales.

In addition to having the best-selling single, Coldplay also released the best-selling rock album of 2011 in the shape of their fifth studio offering 'Xyloto'. The album shifted over 908,000 copies. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds bagged second place with their debut self-titled album, selling 492,000 copies. Florence + The Machines' 'Ceremonials' came in at third place and Foo Fighters at fourth place with their latest album 'Wasting Light'. Mumford & Sons were fifth with their album 'Sigh No More.

8. Snow Patrol - 'Chasing Cars' (128,000) 
9. Florence + the Machine - 'Shake It Out' (127,000) 
10. The Calling - 'Wherever You Will Go' (125,000)

6. Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys! (327,000)
