Metallica To Release 'Beyond Magnetic EP' On CD

Thrash metal titans Metallica are set to release their ‘Beyond Magnetic’ EP on January 30th on CD, the first time it’s been available outside of iTunes.

The extended player contains four previously unheard tracks which were originally only available through the iTunes store, and before that solely for members of the Metallica Club, who received the tracks for free after the band performed them at fan club shows.

Speaking of the release, the band said: “We've been feeling all the love and positive vibes beyond our wildest expectations on the mp3 side, so we decided to go "old school" (!!) and also release those four songs on a CD.”

They continued: “During the Death Magnetic album sessions in 2007 and 2008, we originally recorded 14 songs. When it came time to pick the songs for the final album, we decided on 10 songs that you’ve all come to know over the last three years.

“We kept [the others] in the vault and decided to pull them just for this special celebration, so here are the four leftover tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions. They are ROUGH mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March ’08. These four songs were released as gift to our closest fans, the members of our Fan Club, to enjoy. Now they're being made available to you.”

The new EP contains the tracks ‘Hate Train’, ‘Just a Bullet Away’, ‘Hell and Back’, and ‘Rebel of Babylon’. You can hear ‘Hate Train’ embedded below.

Metallica fans can catch the band performing the whole of the ‘Black Album’ at this year’s epic Download Festival, which takes place on December 8th. If you want tickets, check out the link below.
