The first three Dio albums, ‘Holy Diver’, ‘The Last in Line’ and ‘Sacred Heart’, are due to be reissued as special Deluxe Editions on 12th March. Each release has been remastered and will feature a bonus CD containing an expanded booklet with notes from rock journalist Malcolm Dome and has been endorsed by Ronnie James Dio’s widow Wendy. Dio were originally formed by lead vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Vinny Appice following their departure from Black Sabbath in 1982. The band’s line-up was completed by Ronnie’s former Rainbow bandmate Jimmy Bain and current Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell. In 1983, Dio released their debut album ‘Holy Diver’ which, alongside its successors ‘The Last in Line’ and ‘Sacred Heart’, was one of their only releases to feature the full original line-up.
In addition to the work with his own band, Ronnie James Dio was also one of the original members of Rainbow alongside Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore as well as being Ozzy Osbourne’s successor in Black Sabbath. Prior to his death from stomach cancer in 2010, Dio had reformed the ’79-’82 Sabbath line-up with his former bandmates Tommy Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice under the name Heaven and Hell, which was the title of their album from 1980. After touring together, the band released their first album in 28 years, 2009’s ‘The Devil You Know’, which was to be Dio’s final studio recording.
