American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey has reportedly ditched plans for a 30-date tour of the US after her label and tour bosses decided that she wasn’t yet ready to hit the road.
The singer was apparently set to embark on a tour of the country later in the year, but her booking agents and managers at Interscope Records apparently think that she’s not in the right state of mind for the endeavour – following her widely criticised performance on Saturday Night Live.
According to the Rolling Stone and the New York Post, the performance on Saturday Night Live proved that Del Rey wasn’t entirely ready for a string of performances at decently sized venues. The performance saw figures like actress Juliette Lewis tweeting that she was “like watching a 12-year-old in their bedroom when they're pretending to sing and perform.”
The New York Post reported that: “They [Del Rey's management] figure it allows time for her to clear her head, then go back to selling tickets. More importantly, they figure, the extra time gives them more distance from SNL.”
Despite the SNL episode, Lana Del Rey has since gone on to perform on the Letterman show much more successfully, receiving positive reviews all round.
UPDATE: Lana Del Rey has since denied cancelling her US tour - see the full story HERE.
