Manchester's Marconi Union Claim To Have Made 'Most Relaxing Song Ever'

Ambient-producing trio Marconi Union have claimed they’ve created the music chilled-out and relaxing song ever after working with sound therapists for a scientific experiment.

After teaming up with the sound therapists, the production pair managed to create ‘Weightless’, which doctors believe is so relaxing, that it should never be listened to while driving a car or operating heavy machinery. The eight-minute track can be heard below – and should help decrease your anxiety levels, reduce your brain activity (can you get lower than 0%?) and slow your breathing.

Incredibly, the track was played to a total of 40 women by toiletry and shower product company Radox, and was found to be much more relaxing than the likes of classical composer Mozart and singer-songwriter-mystical musician Enya – with 65% of the subjects seeing a decrease in their level of anxiety.

Found of the British Academy of Sound Therapy Lyz Cooper said: “The song makes use of many musical principles that have been shown to individually have a calming effect. By combining these elements in the way Marconi Union have has created the perfect relaxing song. The study found this to be the world's most relaxing song.”

“It is important that the song is eight minutes long because it takes about five minutes for this process, known as entrainment, to occur. The gaps between notes - have been chosen to create a feeling of euphoria and comfort. And there is no repeating melody, which allows your brain to completely switch off. Instead, there are random chimes, which help to induce a deeper sense of relaxation. The final element is the low, whooshing sounds and hums that are like Buddhist chants.”
