Last week Stereoboard reported that concerts at London's Hyde Park were under threat due to complaints about the level of noise. Today we can report that Hyde Park concerts WILL go ahead this year as planned, however, Westminster Council will be putting in place new restrictions for next year's live music events – with concerts still at risk if the noise level limits are breached.
Nine rock concerts are scheduled for this July, all of which will go ahead as planned. Next year, however, the number of gigs allowed to take place at Hype Park will be cut from thirteen to nine with crowds of no more than 65,000 allowed.
The Evening Standard reports that the council will increase monitoring noise levels on side streets and improve controls over “low frequency” noise and “repetitive beats”, following a surge in complaints following a Chemical Brothers concert. In addition, it was also reported that Live Nation briefed Westminster Council about the nine concerts scheduled for this year, explaining that the events were vital to cover the £12.5 million loss from staging Olympic and Paralympic entertainment in the capital's three hot-spots of Hyde Park, Victoria Park and Trafalgar Square.
Live Nation's chief operating officer, John Probyn, revealed that the council's decision to keep the Hyde Park concerts was "a fantastic result" and promised to work with residents to keep noise to a tolerable level.
Colin Buttery, acting chief executive of the Royal Parks, said: "We need to steer clear of certain bands but the key thing is certainly the monitoring."
London Mayor Boris Johnson commented: "I'm glad Westminster has shown some wisdom in taking this decision. I'm determined that Hyde Park should continue to be a wonderful, grassy venue for concerts of all types.”
A number of huge concerts are planned for London's Hyde Park this Summer. Bruce Springsteen (pictured) is to play as part of the Hard Rock Calling weekend event, in addition, Wireless Festival takes place in July. Madonna is to play a huge show there in June and Blur, The Specials and New Order will play as part of a massive Olympics Closing Ceremony Celebration Concert in August.NOTE FROM THE EDITOR We don't run any advertising!
