Graham Coxon Claims New Album Won't Feature Any Love 'Crap'

Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has opened up about his new solo record – claiming that it’s a change from his usual love-related romanticism and is instead a look at the ‘bleaker side of life’.

‘A+E’ is set to hit shelves on April 2nd, so with the release date creeping closer and closer, Coxon has decided to give fans a bit of an idea of what’s to come – and whatever does come, it seems it won’t be soppy.

Talking to Q, Coxon confessed: “I suppose I've never gone so blatantly for a synthesiser and a drum machine before. This time I started to listen to the bleaker side of things more. There is a bit of a drought of romantic songs on this record, which is usually my default setting.

“There are no love songs on it and no moaning about relationships and girls. So I'm quite proud of that, because sometimes you think, 'Will I ever get away from singing about that crap?' Still there's plenty more where that all came from!”

Coxon also recently talked about Britpop band Blur’s future, telling NME “The situation we're finding ourselves in now, creatively, is that all of that – any kind of second-guessing about the situation – seems to have disappeared, and we’re allowing ourselves to be absolutely OK and to be ourselves with each other. That's really great, that's what we really need.”

Blur will be performing at the Olympics closing ceremony in Hyde Park on August 12th, alongside The Specials and New Order. If you need tickets, check the link below.
