One Direction have been pretty much untouchable for the past couple of months, picking up BRIT Awards, appearing on US television and more recently, outshining their US counterparts Big Time Rush on their own headline tour of the states. But today, they received one accolade they won’t be so proud to pick up – NME’s gong for ‘Worst Band of the Year’!
The X-Factor boyband were one of a few winners of the ‘anti-awards’ at the NME Awards ceremony last night, and beat off ‘stiff competition’ from Coldplay, Beady Eye, Muse and Viva Brother to pick up the ‘Worst Band of the Year trophy’.
Birthday boy Justin Bieber was another winner (or loser) at the ceremony, with his album ‘Under the Mistletoe’ receiving the ‘Worst Album of the Year’ award, triumphing over One Direction, Coldplay, Lady Gaga and Viva Brother, while Bieber also managed to pick up ‘Villain of the Year’ too – with the judges panel finding the Canadian even more criminal than Tory Prime Minister David Cameron and his partner in crime Nick Clegg, as well as Lady Gaga and Liam Gallagher.
