Superstar soul singer Adele is closing in on Prince’s album chart record with ‘21’ staying yet another week on top of the Billboard 200, making it 23 weeks in total for the ‘Rolling in the Deep’ star.
Prince and the Revolution’s ‘Purple Rain’ managed to stay at #1 for a total of 24 weeks back in 1984/5, the longest anyone has ever stayed at the top since Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ managed 31 weeks in 1977. The original soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever has also managed 24 weeks at the top, meaning that if Adele makes it one more week, she’ll tie with the other two.
‘21’ has turned into something of a miracle for the Tottenham singer, selling ridiculous amounts – over 2million copies have been shifted in the US since just the start of 2012 – picking up multiple awards and helping fund a brand new £7million mansion.
It’s not all been good news for the star, though, as it was recently revealed that Adele may have had to scrap world tour plans because of her damaged vocal cords, which she recently went under the knife to correct.
A source told the Daily Star: “The surgery was successful but doctors are still concerned she could damage her golden voice. They have given the go-ahead to one-off shows but a full tour has been ruled out for now.”
