Bobby Womack Diagnosed With Colon Cancer

Soul singer-songwriter Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with colon cancer, according to friend and fellow performer Bootsy Collins yesterday.

The 68 year-old, who was inducted to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame back in 2009, has reportedly been diagnosed with the disease and is currently undergoing treatment – though he still remains ‘very upbeat about his future’.

Posting through his official Twitter account, Collins told fans: “I just spoke to our friend Bobby Womack. He wanted you all to know that he loves you and thanks for the prayers. Doctor says he is in the first stage of colon cancer, he is very upbeat about his future, we laughed & joked before we hung up. Thanks funkateers, we will get him back on the one!”

Collins had originally posted messages telling fans to pray for Womack, who had initially been to the hospital to seek treatment for pneumonia, saying: “We Pray for Bobby Womack Right Now, TO BE HEALED FROM PNEUMONIA AND ANY OTHER AILMENT HE IS FIGHTING AT THIS TIME.” It’s believe that Womack was diagnosed with colon cancer following his treatment for the lung condition.

Stereoboard wishes Womack a quick and speedy recovery.
