Throughout 2012, we’ve seen One Direction catapult from star British boyband to internationally-renowned singers – and now it seems they’re too busy to even visit Barack Obama at the White House.
The boyband performed their hit single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards on the weekend and, following the massive success of the band in the US as of late – which has seen them earn their own television show as well as their first ever US headlining tour – the boys were invited by Obama to participate in the traditional White House Easter egg hunt.
But, even though the teens were probably frothing at the mouth at the invitation, they had to refuse – as they already have shows scheduled in Australia. The band thanked Obama and his wife Michelle for their invitation, and admitted that they were honoured to receive it – as well as promising to make sure they paid a visit in the near future.
The singers definitely earned themselves a few more celebrity fans at the award ceremony, including the Obama daughters, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, and may have found an unlikely fan in punk princess Kelly Osbourne. Ozzy’s daughter revealed that she is actually quite proud of the band, and said that she was happy they were receiving so much attention across the pond, saying: “They are so amazing and they are so lovely and it makes me so happy – it’s like the Brits taking over I love it.”
